The Artist:Alfredo Villasana was an incredibly artistic silversmith who worked for William Spratling and Hector Aguilar in Taxco, Mexico, then went out on his own in the 1950s. The Taxco silversmiths began with William Spratling, an American born architect who arrived in Mexico in 1929 and in 1931 set up a silversmiths workshop Las Delicias in Taxco, Mexico (pronounced Tasco which sometimes is the spelling used on some of the marked jewelry). From the outset, Spratling employed several Mexican silversmiths who executed his and their own designs, creating wonderful pieces of silver jewelry exhibiting highly creative designs and superb craftsmanship. Alfredo Villasana, Margot de Taxco, Hector Aguilar De Castillo, Ballesteros, and others were part of the Spratling group in Tasco, Mexico. Signed pieces like this one are treasured and can only increase in value. This bracelet dates to around the mid to late 1950s, it is a spring loaded Cuff Clamp piece. The design is very striking openwork Fanned Scrolls.The bracelet is a hollow-ware piece, with a repousse' top soldered to the inner plate silver base. The hinge spring is in good condition, but shows very slight signs of oxidation, this could be removed with a gentle cleaning. This bracelet came to is with the rich dark patina you see pictured, we chose not to clean this piece, it will be up to you, if you want to polish it Bright. This bracelet is approximately 1 1/8 inches wide at the spring hinge, it widens out to approximately 2 1/2 inches wide at the scrolls. This bracelet will comfortable fit an 8 inch wrist. This bracelet has a wonderful pedigree, and comes from a time when there were many talented silversmiths working in Taxco.
