This powerful religious figure was thought to have the ability to intercede with the elements and with ancestral spirits. He also acted as a mediator in family disputes. Although mask were used in the earliest religious ceremonies of these Indian groups , there was an eventual evolution to puppetry. Measures approximately 8 1/4” long. Good condition for the age.
