This listing is for a vintage Selmer (Paris) mouthpiece for tenor saxophone. To be perfectly honest, I'm not sure what model this is because I could not find an exact match anywhere on the internet. It might well be a transitional, prototype, or one off piece. At first glance it appears to be a run of the mill 1970's era Soloist style piece. A closer inspection reveals that the end of the shank is more bulbous, and the overall length is noticeably shorter (105mm) though. It doesn't have the standard Selmer facing designation, but rather is marked "M20" on the side. This would seem to indicate a 'Magnitone' model, but those had a different shank design. It is also stamped with the number "44163". Other Selmer models had such a marking, and if I recall correctly, it is not a serial number. I don't remember though if it is a date stamp, or a reference to the facing curve specifications. The tip opening, by the way, is quite small, measuring in at just .065". The interior just adds to the mystery. It has a round chamber that is slightly smaller than the backbore. It also has deeply scooped inner side walls. If anyone knows definitively what this is, please send me a message! At any rate, it would be a very cool piece for Selmer collectors. In terms of functionality, it would definitely be in the classical realm. This mouthpiece is in excellent used condition. The facing is perfectly smooth. There are no tooth indentations on the beak. There are no cracks, chips, or other damage. The rubber has some odd discolorations that correspond to where it was covered by a ligature. It almost looks like the rubber reacted to the metal of a ligature somehow. It isn't super noticeable though, and definitely doesn't affect playability in any way. There are some ligature scratches/scuffs on the top of the body. It has been cleaned/sanitized, so it is ready to use. Please feel free to email me with any questions. Thanks again for looking! RBlot
