Description: This restored vintage unmarked Vollrath (Sheboygan, WI) #8 Cast Iron Skillet with outer heat ring has been thoroughly cleaned and seasoned with organic coconut oil. The unmarked Vollath is identifiable by the distinctive way the skillet size number is underlined and appears sideways on the bottom center of the pan (see pictures). Based on the markings, this skillet was cast sometime in the 1930's to 1950's. The skillet does have slight movement when placed on a granite counter top - corrected by a piece of paper. It has no chips, cracks or repairs - and is ready to use or display. As with other skillets from this time period, there are some minor casting flaws on the bottom (see pictures). The skillet has a great cooking surface with minor utensil marking (see pictures). The bottom is marked with an sideways "8" in the bottom center. The skillet is 11” wide (spout to spout), 15 3/8" long including the handle, and 2 1/8" deep. This skillet would be a great for cooking or camping. Cleaning and Seasoning process: The cleaning process begins with several days of soaking in a lye tank, followed by several hours in the electrolysis tank. After any skillet is stripped back to bare metal, it's lightly scrubbed with steel wool and given a thin coat of organic olive oil. To season the skillet, it’s put in the oven and heated first at 200°, then 300° for about 15 minutes. After it’s been heated, it’s coated with a liberal amount of organic coconut oil and wiped down to remove any excess oil. The skillet is put back in the oven at 425° for about 30 minutes. This process is repeated several times to create a protective surface. Just a reminder, cast iron skillets are not designed for the newer glass/ceramic cooking surfaces. Also, since cast iron can be damaged if dropped or mishandled, I safely pack each piece for shipping.
