Description: Vintage - Rare - K & E Co. #9155 - 12 Inch Drafting Beam Compass - made in USA I got this from a retired architect who says it was originally owned by his grandfather. He thought it was from the 1920's (I was unable to verify that). The little I found on the model seems to point to a pre-WWII manufacture date (certainly at least pre-1950). I couldn't learn much about the Phoenix company that originally sold the compass - except it was located in a building that was designed in 1913 and later demolished (date?).Keuffel & Esser was started in 1867 by German immigrants (in New York I believe). This is a 12" beam compass in its original box. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!!! ;-) One of the previous owners found an additional 12" bar, and there's a shop-made stainless steel coupling which allows this to be used as a 24" beam compass! See images.
