Per WorthPoint, Norcrest China Company was founded by a Japanese-American businessman who mastered the post-war Japanese export business, becoming one of the top pottery brands in mid-century America. Famous for its bathroom wall plaques, head vases, figurines, and holiday décor, Norcrest was a prominent ceramics brand. Although it was never considered fine china, Norcrest’s playful designs and colorful palette fit well into America’s post-war trends. These little football players and their kitschy design are a wonderful addition to any collection, especially as they are now considered hard to find amongst Norcrest’s various lines. Each figurine is marked Norcrest. They are without any chips, cracks or crazing. They were hand painted quickly prior to export from Japan to the American market. As a result, the painting is sometimes “outside the lines” as shown in the pictures, but typical for figurines of this era. The painting colors remain vibrant. There are small areas with paint thickness variance in application and some very tiny rub scuffs as shown in the pictures such as on the black football pants.
