Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Vintage 1950's Photo 20" x 24" Cities Service Gas Station Display RARE Original photo, I don't see where this display has ever been offered. The photo is on 3/16" hardboard backing and hung in a gas station in Muskogee, OK until it was shut down in the 70's. I'm not sure of the location of the Station in the photo, it does not look like the one in Muskogee that was much older. The photo features a uniformed service station attendant (a concept that disappeared over 50 years ago) checking out a Dodge Coronet car with a Ram hood ornament, a style that existed in the early 50's. The Cities Service "Expanding Triangle" logo is on top of the Station. This logo was used by Cities Service from 1928 until 1965 when it as replaced with the CITGO triangle logo. The display has oil stains on the upper part of the photo, likely from the errant opening of an oil can in the Station (see photos) Background on Cities Service Oil Company: Cities Service was a major oil company formed in 1910 with major petroleum distribution and utilities in the East and oil production in the Midwest. Cities Service Corporate Headquarters moved from NY, NY to Tulsa, OK in 1968. My husband went to work as an engineer for Cities Service in 1975. CITGO later became the US refining and retail marketing side of Cities Service pioneered the concept of the convenience stores in the 1970's. CITGO was ultimately sold and headquarters moved to Houston, now owned by Venezuela with a 49% stake by Russia with a very checkered story over the past 40 years. Occidental Petroleum acquired Cities Service in 1982 and promptly began selling off assets.
