Description: This is a fascinating and unusual Vintage Modern Expressionist Alien Portrait Oil Painting or Acrylic on canvas, by the talented and renowned Science Fiction surrealist painter, R. Carlson. Carlson is known for being active during the 1970's and although biographical information on this artist is non-existent, I suspect that he worked in California, as this is the second R. Carlson artwork that I have acquired, and both were from the Los Angeles area. His artwork titled Interstellar, and dated 1977, was once available on 1stdibs. This piece depicts the side portrait of an extraterrestrial being, who looks upwardly toward the sky. His skin is rendered with grey tones and mottled, obtrusive veins, and he is portrayed against a pitch black and deep purple background. This piece likely dates to the mid to late 1970's. Signed: "R. Carlson" in the lower right corner. Approximately 30 x 36 inches. Good condition for age and storage, with a few light scuffs and edge wear to the canvas (please see photos.)
