Description: You are bidding on a Vintage Metropolitan Museum of Art Black Sphynx Egyptian Cat Statue. The following description was taken off of the old MMA website for this item: Our reproduction is based on an original Egyptian sculpture from the Late Dynastic period (712–332 B.C.), now in the Museum's collection. The bronze cat figure, found in Saqqara, is hollow, indicating that it was probably used as a container for mummified remains. In its subtle modeling and stylized features, the sculptor has captured the lithe aloofness and dignity characteristic of the feline. A collar is engraved around the neck, from which is suspended a wedjat-eye pectoral for protection and well-being. Details Cast bonded bronze (I'm not sure what this means. This is the description on the old MMA Website. This feels like resin to me, but is heavy, in speaking with a fellow Ebayer, I believe this is resin over bronze, thus, bonded bronze)Hand painted3 1/4''H x 1 1/2''W x 2 1/4''D including base
