Description: Vintage MCM Painting Original, 1948, signed Robert C. Smith (1926-2018), Watercolor GouacheModernist artist, Robert C. Smith was an eclectic artist who explored many mediums. Drawing and painting were always important to him and remained a constant pursuit even into his nineties.Bob often painted his surroundings including this painting showing the view from the back of Bob's apartment in Buffalo, NY. He is known for his focus on patterns and motion which is apparent even in this early work painted during his days at the Albright Art Institute which was then an art school connected to the University of Buffalo where he was a student and then an instructor. It was a time when some of his best works were painted as he didn't yet have the distraction of family responsibilities and he was surrounded by other wonderfully talented artists of the time. The piece is 16"x 20" painted on illustration board. I believe it is watercolor gouache as that was his preferred paint but I am not 100%. It has been unframed and stored for many years but seems to have held up well.
