Description: Vintage Japanese Sensu Hand Painted Folding Fan Bamboo Wood Paper Silk Black H2. This is a fan from Japan that I found at an estate sale. This person had other vintage items from Japan as well. 1940s on. This fan has a wood bracing and spokes. It’s either bamboo or wood. The spokes are hand-painted as well as the fabric or paper. If this is paper, it feels like a cross between paper and fabric. Silk? There is a little warping to the fan see photos. Some of the paint has worn off. Held together with a metal Nail that is stainless steel or steel. No tears noted. Closed the fan measures 9 inches by approximately an inch and a half of the top and an inch in the bottom. I really don’t know the value of this fan. But somebody has taken very good care of it for, probably 60 or 70 years.
