Description: This appears to be a vintage, Made in Japan, red & black lacquer box. I could not find this exact box on the internet, but found similar japanese lacquer boxes with the red on the outside and black on the inside. This box is decorated with a manji (swastika) on top. This box was given to me by a family member along with other vintage items that date back from the 1920's to 1950's. It could be a trinket or jewelry box. It currently holds incense and cotton. I'm not sure, but the current contents could be the original things that came with the box new. The Japanese are known for incence use in religious ceremonies. It could also be a bakelight dish with the similarity to others on the internet. It appears to be a rare item because no other exact boxes were found on the internet. I'm selling the item as is, and I am not making any objective claims as to the identification of the product. It's up to the buyer to do more investigative work. It's in pretty good condition with no major flaws or issues except one area, which shows on the pics.
