Description: For sale is a vintage hand painted ceramic Japanese Kokeshi Doll Coin Bank. It is signed by who I assume is the artist: Quanlon. The doll is approx. 8 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide in its widest point. Japanese Kokeshi dolls are traditional dolls with a simple, minimalist design and a unique charm. Originating in the Tohoku region of northeastern Japan in the early 19th century, Kokeshi dolls were originally handmade by artisans as toys for children or souvenirs for visitors to hot spring resorts. Over time, these dolls became recognized as a form of folk art, embodying Japanese aesthetics and craftsmanship. Kokeshi dolls typically feature a cylindrical or spherical body with no arms or legs, a rounded head, and painted features, often with delicate floral or geometric patterns. Traditional Kokeshi are classified into several styles based on the region they come from, such as Naruko, Tsuchiyu, and Togatta, each with distinct shapes and designs. Creative or "Sosaku" Kokeshi, developed post-WWII, allow for more artistic freedom, with modern designs and colors. It is in excellent vintage condition. It does not include the plug in the bottom for the bank.
