Description: The Morning Walk by Thomas Gainsborough Framed Lithograph M/T Published For Art Treasures, Inc My mom had this stored away, so I know it's probably from the 1960's or 70's The lithograph is textured to make it look more like a real oil painting. It is in a wood frame with no glass to clearing see the details. The actual lithograph measures 16"x20" with the frame it measures 19"23" Wall Hanging Ready Condition: Very Good with the exception of one small tear on the right side, likely caused by the wall hanging backing staple that someone accidentally pushed on too hard. It's barely noticeable and doesn't detract from the overall beauty of the lithograph. From a smoke and pet free home. The History of the People in the Original Oil Painting: Mr and Mrs William Hallett(orThe Morning Walk) is a 1785 oil on canvas painting by the British painterThomas Gainsborough, and is now in the collection of theNational Galleryin London Gainsborough painted the work in the summer of 1785, when the subjects, William Hallett (17641842) and Elizabeth Stephen (1763/4-1833) were both aged 21, shortly before their wedding at thechurch of St LawrenceinLittle Stanmoreon 30 July 1785. Gainsborough was commissioned by Hallett, and paid 120 guineas (126). Hallett was the grandson of a successful cabinetmaker, also named William Hallett, and inherited his estate atCanons Parkin Middlesex. Stephen was an heiress, inheriting nearly 20,000 from her father, a surgeon, who had died before the marriage. The couple never lived at Canons Park: by 1788, Hallett had let Canons and had bought the estate ofLittle Wittenhamin Berkshire, but they resided atFaringdon Housein Oxfordshire for almost 20 years. Hallett was a gambler, lost money in business transactions, and worked his way through his fortune by 1830, although the marriage was reportedly a happy one. They were married for almost 48 years, with two sons and four daughters. Hallett remarried after Elizabeth's death in 1833. After his death in 1842, William was buried next to Elizabeth in the churchyard of the church where they had been married decades before.
