Created in New York in the middle of the last century, prior to 1981 when the company ceased operations, it is in excellent condition. The bronzy-gold toned and possibly gold plated brooch is crafted in a basketweave pattern. It features nine woven squares, each decorated with a prong-set crystal that glimmers in a warm shade of garnet, red, or amber. Rope-like strands form a classic quatrefoil-shaped border to complete the design. The brooch measures roughly 1 7/8” long and wide and weighs about half an ounce. It is fastened with a pin and rollover safety clasp for secure closure. The “FLORENZA (c)” mark is embossed within a rectangle on the slightly textured back. Despite at least 40 years of life, this brooch is in excellent condition. The crystals are all solidly in place, and the gold metal shows minimal wear. The pin and clasp function well, and the embossed maker’s mark is crisp and clear.
