Vintage Excellent 1940s EMERSON Dove Gray Beaver Sz 7-3/8 & Box? Stetson

Description: Very Very RARE EMERSON - Wide Brim - Whipstitch - Dove Gray Fedora - size 7-3/8. NOTE: we have updated the pictures to show what a bit of glove oil and one of dad’s hat forms will do when a leather sweatband has slight folds on it?The end results of just 2 days have been added to the picture gallery. The last couple of pictures are the before the fix. What you see in the rest of the pictures of the whole underside and sections are now what it will be. Near pristine. See pictures and write to us with any questions?The leather sweatband is completely and securely attached the way around and is still very soft and pliable. You know this was manufactured and sold between 1948 - 1951. That OPC (Office of Price Control) was only tagged those years. This OPC was suppose to help control inflation at that time. Maybe it’s something that we could use in todays economical enviorment? If you are at all familiar with the 1940-1950s Dobbs “GAY PRINCE”, this is a great little brother fedora to those fedora. This is just one step before Dobbs “Prince” fedora (Stetson also had the same models back then too with a Whipstitch, Dad has one listed here on eBay, if not sold yet?)? The DOBBS and the STETSON another hat models that not only had a Whipstitch on the beaver hatband but also manufactured with a Whipstitch on the brim edge. These are extremely detailed fedora! Those were the most detailed hats that were ever manufactured! With that wide brim (2.9 inches) and the Whipstitch beaver hatband! Even that original beautiful feather set is still in good condition! This is a Dove Gray color. We don’t know why the pictures are not coming out correctly on the topside of the fedora but are correct when we took pictures of the underside? The picture of the whole underside best reflects the actual color of the whole hat! If anyone out there has recommendations please write to us. NOTE: this hat box is still in excellent condition! With its original hat holding insert set and very minor paper wear. It’s a great sturdy hat box, shipping is a bit more expensive because this hat box is slightly larger than the Stetson burnt orange 1950s hat box and shipping outside the continental USA will include the hat box! This is one time that dad insists that the box go along with the hat. It’s going to be a bit more expensive but well worth the price! We are 100% certain this was worn! Because Dad, cousins and friends all had similar fedoras with that Whipstitch and there is a photograph somewhere with the group and their wives with all wearing a Whipstitch fedora. There are boxes of old pictures in Dad’s closet! Back then folks actually printed pictures out! Some pictures made it to an actual scrapbook and others were just stored away. If we do find the picture we will add it to the picture gallery. OLD NOTE: this was the old original note before the fix. “Read condition, it’s OUSTANDING! The leather sweatband is completely and securely attached! Still soft and pliable. Those slight folds occurred because there was a couple of strips of thick felt under the leather sweatband when it was stored away, dad says he should have removed them. But don’t worry! Dad is conditioning the leather sweatband with some glove oil and placing it on one of his old wooden hat form stretchers to smooth it all out. We will update the pictures afterwards. Since the leather sweatband is still completely and securely attached and very soft and pliable, it should smooth out very well! Just wearing it would smooth it out, this will just speed that up!” It’s just way too beautiful! This is a REAL LOOKER! With that beautiful matching crown band, wide brim, and now Dad is going to add a coat trolley string. See picture. So dad has a collection of old stock coat trolley string dating back to the 1960s. These are all very elastic and completely function. If you’d like dad to add a gray coat trolley string and if other folks need these for your hats, look through dad’s listing and you’ll find 2 separate listing. Black, Brown Taupe and gray or SilverBelly. These can easily be sewn onto the hat by any decent tailor or the extra string maybe cut off and used as just a decoration. This was EMERSON’s most detailed fedora they EVER made! That whipstitch going the beaver hatband really detailing the hatband! It’s just an amazing fedora! We left it as a pinched crown fedora, as found, dad and grandson did just a bit of steam shaping to better detail and make the shape sharper. Truly a beautiful fedora! These are so very rarely found in such excellent condition! We know that it states this is made from that Vintage Beaver TEN but since it’s a true vintage Beaver Ten for 1948-1951 it’s much much soft than the newer mid to late 1950s Beaver Ten! Extremely Soft and thick Beaver material! This is a medium weight fedora. Its current shape wise how it was found. A bit of detailing was steamed into the hat (currently a pinched crown) to sharpen up the fedora shape.This could easily be steamed into a center dent which would allow for “Hand Bashing”. You MUST write to us and ask if Dad is willing to reshape it? He just loves the current shape! Pictures say much more about this great fedora! We took all angles so you can see every detail! Nothing to hide! After taking pictures outside we can see there is still a bit of built up dust on the beaver. Dad will take it back to his workbench to clean it more. One of Dad’s old hat collector buyers continue to write to tell him to use one of those Orange Cleaning sponges. But Dad refuses to use them. He believes it will hide the something and he just won’t use them! At 95 it’s impossible to change a lifetime of habit and experience. That box is still in very good condition (just very minor paper wear), worthy of storing and shipping. The hat box is included in this sale! The hat and box have been together for so many years they will stay together hopefully FOREVER! There is a center ring to hat the hat but there is no outside ring. Since the leather sweatband is still in excellent condition any good hatter could stretch a bit larger. Dad says the maximum would be just she of a 7-1/2.
