Description: I purchased this low-grade silver necklace at the open air Merkato Market in downtown Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in January of 2007. It is from the Amhara tribe of northwest highlands area of Ethiopia. The Amhara tribe is primarily Ethiopian Tewahedo Orthodox and these are traditional tribal wear among young women. The talisman is 2.25" x 2.25" not including the bangles and chain. Overall the piece is 13". Lots of patina, some oxidation and in as-found condition.
