Description: VINTAGE NATIVE ALASKAN ESKIMO YUPIK CARVED COTTONWOOD DOLL By Famous Yupik Artist Penni Abraham from Bethel, Alaska. This is a very good example handmade, doll with carved features and is depicted seated sewing mukluks. The artist, Penni Abraham, also known as Margaret "Penni" Abraham is well known. Her work is displayed in many books and museums. This amazing doll is all hand made and in beautiful condition. She sits 7 inches tall and 4 inches wide x 4.5 inches deep. The doll's features are a carved cottonwood face and she is wearing a soft fr hooded cotton kuspuk. She has carved wooden hands that are holding mukluk soles, there is a unfinished mukluk next to her. the doll at one time had a hang tag with the artists name. The dolls face, hands, feet are cottonwood found in the Bethel region. The craftsmanship on this doll is exceptional! Margaret "Penni" Abraham is an accomplished doll maker following in her Mother's artistic tradition, she has passed on her doll making techniques to her daughter, Shelee Chamberlain, another reknowned Yupik doll artist. Margaret "Penni" Abraham comes from a multi-generational family of artisans.
