Description: This is a RARE U.S. Coast Guard hat. I originally thought it was a Revenue Cutter Service cap, but now believe it was after the Coast Guard was formed in 1915. It's the Breton style worn in pics from then through WW1. It has a unique front enamel emblem which consists of a WHITE background of 13 stars on RED with BLUE & WHITE stripes. This 1/2" round has BULLION around it and 4 ANCHORS. I cannot find this unique emblem anywhere! There is a SIMILAR one for the U.S. Power Squadron. However, THIS ONE does not feature a Boat Ship Wheel (like the U.S.P.S. logo does.) The black hat is a size 7-1/4 and has an adjustable 1/2" band with 2 BRASS BUTTONS on each side (see pic). It looks like it was GOLD METALLIC originally. This is on top of a wide (2") stretchy black separate band. Also unusual is the WOVEN BAMBOO sweat band inside. I have never seen another one! Inside it is maker marked: J.B. Simpson, Uniforms of Distinction, and SIMPSONAIRE, stamped on the lining. Except for a scratch on the hard visor, it is very good condition, both inside and out. IF YOU HAVE ANY INFO, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT!
