Description: This is a vintage embossed Christmas postcard, unposted with correspondence. It is addressed to Miss Marie Carter of Topeka. I can’t make out the name of the sender. The image is a golden bell surrounded by a Holly wreath. I can’t find another card with this image anywhere on eBay or anywhere else on the internet. See below for some interesting historical information about Marie. I found the postcard at the Evanston, Illinois estate of Robert Russell Jones, originally of Topeka Kansas, Jones had a successful career in journalism, culminating in him being anppointed editor of Industrial Research magazine. His work at Industrial Research is what brought him and his family to Chicago. His wife was the author Dorothy V. Jones. There is an interesting family history here. Robert Russell Jones’ mother, Marie Carter Jones (the recipient of the postcard) was the great great granddaughter of the Potawatomi missionary Robert Simerwell. Her great grandmother was Elizabeth Simerwell Carter, the first non-indigenous female born in Kansas. The card is in good vintage condition, note that there is some discoloration, corner wear, and edge wear. Look at all of my postcards and Christmas items. I am happy to combine shipping.
