Description: ~ Vintage Chinese to British English Flashcards w/Storage Case ~254 noun cards in total. Cards are approximately 1.75" x 2.5". Based upon some of the translations, these cards were created to assist Chinese language speakers learn British English (for example on four cards the Chinese words translate to torch, biscuit, rubber and aubergine, whereas in American English these translations would be flashlight, cookie, eraser and eggplant). A few translations are also incorrect in either version of English (for example translating a picture of market meat to flesh, a bureau to closet, a chimp to orangutan, and binoculars to telescope). The plastic hinge pin has broken from the left side of the case base, and the case top has a short crack at the back right corner. Case is otherwise in good condition. I looked at all cards and pulled many that I thought were unique in that they reflected 1) Chinese culture and items used and encountered in everyday life; 2) British English translations; 3) incorrect translations; and 4) pictures that reflected the time period during which the set was likely created. Based upon card pictures, I would date this set as from the early to mid 1970s.Please zoom in on photographs for best detail.
