Jean-Pierre Napoléon Eugène Chevandier de Valdrome is a French politician , logger and industrialist, born on August 17 , 1810in Saint-Quirin ( Meurthe ). He marries Marguerite Pauline Sahler ( 1820 † 1901 , Kreuznach , Prussia), widow of Charles Guillaume Vopelius, the April 17 , 18541 . He died without descendants on 1 st December 1878in Cirey-sur-Vezouze ( Meurthe-et-Moselle ). He was promoted to Commander of the Legion of Honor for the promotion of August 14, 1869. A dynamic industrialist with certain technical knowledge, he manages many businesses, essentially inherited from his maternal family, the Guaïta, and developed by his father, a factory owner in the glass industry, an Orleanist deputy and a peer from France. Firstly the forest glassworks Note 1 , but also the forges, the coal mines, the sawmills too since he is a very important landowner whose interests extend to Germany. In 1858, he participated in the fusion of family glassworks with the factories of Saint-Gobain. Became one of the main leaders of the third party under the Second Empire, he was appointed Minister of the Interior by Émile Ollivier , in January 1870. Eugène Chevandier de Valdrome then attached himself to the defense of the Liberal Empire , showing solidarity without fault with the head of the ministry who maintains friendly and trusting relations with him. Minister of the Interior, he is known for having commanded his troops on horseback on the Champs-Élysées, facing rioters hostile to the parliamentary regime, during the burial of Victor Noir. The fall of the Empire in 1870 precipitated his withdrawal from political life, which allowed him to dissociate himself from a conflict that damaged his family and industrial alliances and his land interests in Prussia. Eugène Chevandier de Valdrome wrote treatises on chemistry and forestry , in particular the following scientific works: Note on the elasticity and on the cohesion of the different glass species , presented to the Academy of Sciences on June 2, 1845 and Research on the use of various amendments in the culture of forests , also presented to the same academy on December 8, 1851.
