Description: This listing is for a delightful and unusual plate made in Russia. It is reminiscent of Dedham Pottery with its blue and white colors and crackle finish (and a rabbit, too!) This would be a great plate for Christmas cookies and other holiday treats. Thanks to Google, I was able to get a translation of the label which is affixed to the back of the plate. As you can see, the translation came out to be “ Father Frost”. I ran it through another time and it came out “Santa Claus”. So I think the general theme was a depiction of a winter woodland scene which figures prominently in the Russian Father Frost fairy tale. A quick summary: virtuous daughter is left in the cold woods and saved/rewarded by Father Frost. Conversely, the “evil step-sister” is left to freeze due to her insolence to Father Frost. The plate measures about 8.25” in diameter. It has a slightly raised edge and is just under 7” across the flat part of the dish. The dish is in very good condition. No cracks, chips, or repairs. The dark spot on the edge is from the original manufacture process, not a chip. Please examine all photos carefully.
