Description: This interesting apothecary or pharmacy or veterinary bottle is probably from the late 1800s, and it probably held what we now consider quack medicine. It's an old brown glass bottle with three embossed panel: "Glover's Imperial Medicine" on a front panel, "H. Clay Glover Co." and "New York" on the two smaller side panels. The now blank side would probably have had a paper label describing the product. The H. Clay Glover Company was founded in 1876 in New York City and the company ceased operation in 1995, although in 1949 the company moved to Tom's River, New Jersey. Dr. Glover was a veterinary surgeon, and while many of his remedies were aimed at veterinarians and the animal husbandry industry, the company also made remedies and cures for human use. Information about the company is sketchy, and it seems it was most successful in the late 1800s until the late 1920s. Around that time passage of the federal Food and Drug Act limited the ability of "quack medicine" companies and I think Dr. Glover's product line was greatly reduced. This bottle measures about 6 3/4" high, 2 1/4" wide and 1 5/8" deep and it weighs under 1 pound. The bottom of the bottle has an "M T" within a triangle embossed. The inside diameter of the opening is 3/16" and the lip is smooth with no chips or cracks or fleabites. In good condition and clean inside
