Description: This pair of vintage Alaskan fur mukluks (muk luks) is unusually beautiful and may interest collectors and historians. The size 7 or 7-1/2 boots were owned and worn in snow by my mother in Anchorage and Fairbanks between 1955 and 1958 while Alaska was still a territory. The artisan's name and tribal affiliation are unknown. The design, luxurious feel, and quality handmade construction make these boots a true work of art. The tops are fur and leather up to the red edge, which is felt. On the inside, the top couple of inches are lined with fabric to make pulling the boots on and off easier. Below that, there is no lining, only the sturdy back side of the fur hide (caribou?). Each boot has a 1/4" thick felt insole and the pair could still be worn.
