Description: The Fee & Stemwedel Company was founded in Chicago in 1930 by Albert Stemwedel and Dick Fee. They made barometers and thermometers for the home market under the trade name Airguide. In 1956 Dick Fee sold his interest in the company and the name was changed to Airguide Instrument Company. In 1980 Airguide filed for bankruptcy protection and was subsequently sold. Curated from a large collection, this Airguide wall or desk barometer is model #220 The Highlander, according to a company catalog published in 1952. "Handsome and conservatively styled. Novel and easily adjustable altitude dial. Extra wide altitude range to 5500 feet. Handsomely finished, dark solid wood case. Polished brass bezel, ring and knob. Case measures 4 7/8" by 1 3/8. Especially recommended for mountain areas." The face is covered with thick glass. The center with altitude feet numbers is a reddish brown. The bottom is slightly angled, so it sits flat on a table/desk/shelf. Or hang on a wall in a vignette or collection of vintage barometers with the brass ring at the top. The black dial does change when air pressure changes, so it appears to be working. Shipped within the USA only.
