Vintage * Authentic * Hard-to-Find * Primitive * One Of A Kind * Original Molcajete and Tejolote Hancrafted in Mexico. A Molcajete is a (stone bowl or mortar with a pestle) to grind chiles and spices. Hand carved out of natural volcanic lava stone by artisans in Mexico and not by machines. Rustic, natural, unrefined. Lovely!!! Pestle measures: 2-3/4" tall and weighs 6 oz. before packing. Weighs: 5 lbs. 10 oz. before packing. Measures: 7-1/2" wide at top x 4-1/2" tall Grind your spices...or use it to serve your SALSA or GUACAMOLE. These pieces are getting harder to find! You can find them new, but they are machine made. The word molcajete (mortar) derives from Nahuatle, the language of the Aztecs: "molli" (seasoning or sauce) and "caxitl" (bowl).
