Description: This is beautiful just as something to set around even if you never intend to use it. It has a gorgeous patina. Imagine all the leaves that were actually made with this. This is a 3 piece that has the cutter. To use a cutter you'll need a heavy mallet. It's not like cutting out cookies! But I know they could cut out several layers of fabric at once. This one looks like a Trillium flower to me but likely was used for classic Christmas Holly leaves. I'm sure it was used to cut out some leaves with heavy foil paper for Christmas as well as green fabric leaves. The top part is made of cast iron and has a wood handle. The entire length including handle is 8 inches. The bottom is about 2 3/4 inches by 2 1/2 with almost 1 1/4th inch deep of solid brass or bronze. The cutter is 5inches tall. Set weighs a little over 4 pounds. This is quite usable and you could actually cut and form a leaf today exactly how it was done years ago.Cut the fabric of your choice (velvet or cotton). Heat the brass piece. Just placing it on a griddle or stove top and warming it a bit will do. Put some liquid starch on the cut out piece and place it between the top and bottom and press. If you have some way of clamping it tightly it will help. Remove and let dry.Wonderful also just for display. This is a serious well-made tool set.
