It is safe to say that it was not used as an ashtray but as a display piece. The piece is Cobalt Blue ceramic. The center design is in 24 Carat gold with green, Lavender, light blue, white and beige. The scene depicts 2 men in a 3 horse carriage being given a baby from a young maiden. This could be perhaps symbolic of the baby Jesus and the 3 Wise Men. But that is just a guess.
