I strongly recommend using wood glue to attach the shingles on the roof - it is strong and does not cause warping, because it contains less water than Elmer's Glue-All, for example. I also reinforce tab and slot kits with some glue at the key joints to give it extra strength. I have had success with Elmer's Carpenter's Wood Glue. Another great glue to have on hand is Beacon 527, since it dries clear and is very strong. It would be a good choice for building the stairs.
