Printmaker, graphic artist, and educator Kenneth William Auvil was born in Ryderwood, Washington, in 1925. Information on his educational background and life are scarce. He was particularly active as an artist in the mid-century, focusing on Abstract landscapes in serigraphy, and in the late 1970s and 1980s his work become more hyper-detailed and representational, occasionally verging on the Surreal. He taught printmaking at San Jose State University from 1958 to 1995, and he authored several books on the subjects of drawing, printmaking, and computer graphics. He has works in the permanent collections of the National Art Gallery, the Portland Museum of Art, Mills College, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco. He died in 1999.
