THOR: In Germanic mythology, Thor is a hammer-wielding god associated with lightning, thunder, storms, strength, the protection of mankind... For us, it just happens to be one sweet looking and thumping Aria Pro II Bass. This Aria TSB-650 Thor Sound, in a natural finish, was made in Japan around 1980. In the early eighties, Aria was owned by the same crowd as the famed Matsumoku factory, who were known for their master ability to build high quality instruments that blew the competition out of the water. For all you deadheads that don't want to spend a ton of money on an Alembic this is a serious close second. Jerry Garcia would have loved this guitar. It's got a neck-through-style with beautiful mother-of-pearl inlays and a just an incredible set of woods used throughout. This is an excellent quality Japanese made guitar from the infamous Matsumoko Factory. The tonal range is amazing: from clean to total distortion with a flick of a switch. The neck is straight and all the electronics work properly.The neck-through construction allows for a huge amount of natural sustain and resonance. The body is ash, with incredible figuring in the grain of the wood. It has a five ply maple neck with a thin walnut striping down the middle. It has a solid EBONY fretboard! This monster is surprisingly easy to play with its relatively low weight, medium scale and slim neck. The tone is what you would expect from a killer ... it has sustain, punch, attack and grit. This baby is aptly named after an iconic god and awaits a player who longs to go on a mythological, music adventure. This classic beauty is in fantastic condition for hitting its 45 year mark...It is near mint. The case had a fork lift go through it but luckily the guitar wasn't touched. (see pics) This guitar is professionally set up and dialed in for optimal tone and playability. It has low action with no buzzing or dead spots and is an absolute joy to play. It has been deep cleaned and detailed. All guitars will arrive looking and playing great. The frets have been leveled / dressed / polished and the fingerboard was cleaned. (Unfinished Rosewood and Ebony boards get treated with Fret Doctor - a proprietary all natural oil that is the best on the market) It has brand new strings, the action was adjusted, the intonation is spot on and it plays excellent.
