Description: The Concord Stage Coaches were first introduced to the Atlantic seaboard in the mid-18th century and were used to carry passengers and mail on a 25-day transcontinental trip. At the Mississippi River Station, the coaches took aboard gold seekers, settlers, shop keepers, and gamblers all of whom were looking for the better life in the new west. Up to 800 pounds of express mail were jammed into the "boots". Nine people rode inside, and as many as five could ride outside - if they hung on tight! Stage coaches could cover 100 miles a day stopping every 12 to 15 hours for fresh horses. Throughout the nation, stage coach stations sprang up dotting lonely roadsides. They provided the only dependable transportation until the advent of the railroad and continued for many years to link the small towns with the rail lines. This is a vintage 1977 Allwood Brand Stage Coach wooden wagon kit with sharply die-cut plywood, hardwood parts cut to final shape, dowels, metal stocks, metal hardware, and more with detailed instructions. Measures 9.5" long, 4.25 "wide and 6.25" high once assembled. Box is open and front shows wear with a few places torn off from price tags. Previous owner may have started wheel assembly on this kit. Parts appear to be complete but uncertain. One of the vinyl cutouts may be missing but plenty material on sheet to recut if necessary. Please see all photos. Items in photos are what buyer will receive.
