Description: An interesting work of the mid 1970's----original watercolor and crayon drawing of the freeway intersections and downtown towers of Los Angeles at the time, signed at lower right "John N" and dated 10-74. The piece measures 12 1/2" by 13" inside the mat and 19 1/2" by 19 1/2" in the period frame. This is not quite artist Wayne Thiebaud and his famed California elevated freeways, which are now seen as Pop Art works in and of themselves; but this artist had a modern vision and handled the subject magnificently, in subdued avocado greens and browns and black. An unfinished skyscraper skeleton stands at left, topped by a crane. Two of the buildings have corporate names on top: IBM and Union (Oil Company of California, now best known as "76"). There is no further information on the reverse or elsewhere; the identity of the artist remains a mystery.
