Description: Vintage 1960’s, Sportsways, Waterlung “Malibu Diver”, 2nd stage regulator (Batch #3) SUPER RARE! Garage find! One of the original designers / engineers at Sportsways USA (Wayne Beatty, pictured in the Skin Diver Article below) passed away recently. In cleaning out the garage, his Daughter & Grandson discovered a treasure chest of vintage Sportsways dive gear (More to come)! All these cool vintage items appear to have never been used. Certainly, never been wet! We believe that when Sportsways closed its doors in the late 1980s, Mr. Beatty was given & was already in possession of many items from the warehouse. The collection includes hundreds of items from the 1960’s.ALL ORIGINAL – Stored for 40 to 60 Years! “Malibu Diver” 2nd stage regulator with:-Original Sportsways Labeled hose.-Mouthpiece with metal clip-Metal clip on exhaust -No serial numbers found (presumably these items are pre-production, non-circulated) Appear to be in new condition. Some small markings from being in storage or used for design / engineering. Other than that, these regulators are the most pristine vintage Sportsways you will ever find! -As found in Sportsways catalogue 1963-“Features incomparable Waterlung performance and workmanship at an economy price. All fittings have O-ring seals, fast and easy to remove with no special tool required. Waterlung rocker valve design in the second stage.” Sportsways part number 1330 -SOLD as is, Vintage, COLLECTIBLE.-Attached to a 1st stage reg with the IP set 120 psi, regulator seems to hold the pressure and works normally with no evidence of leaks.-Ad and photo of tech not included. USA, when ORIGINALLY owned by Sam Lecocq, Sportsways USA! All ORIGINAL! Founded in 1958 by Sam Lecocq, Sportsways was the first manufacturer to introduce the single hose regulator to American divers, with the “Waterlung”. In 1959 they introduced the “Sea-Vue “submersible pressure gauge. In 1968 the Sportsways company was sold to Pittmann Rubber, and renamed in 1969 to Jilco Industries Inc. They offered the first octopus rig offered in the United States in 1971. After the death of the company’s principle investor in the late 1970’s, Sam purchased all the inventory and continued to produce the products for several years until most of the parts were consumed. The equipment continued to be sold under the Sportsways name until 1981. Not wanting to become a manufacturer, he sold the name and all the assets to Australian investors in 1982. They continued to produce the Sportsways line in Australia for an additional 14 years until the brand faded in 1996 and they stopped production. Batch #3
