Description: Louis Marx The American Presidents complete set of 35, vintage mid 1960s. These are the painted figures, and all of them are in excellent, as new condition, with no signs of paint wear. This set includes every president from George Washington to Lyndon Johnson, which is why I date it as mid 1960s, probably 64-65.. The set includes an "American Presidents Album", a 5 3/8" x 8 1/4" 8 page pamphlet with pictures and briief biographies of each. The back indicates that the figures were available at Eisner Food Stores, a regional chain in Illinois and Indiana. Marx made these available as a promotion for a number of grocery chains, offering an addition president or two each week so if you wanted to collect them all, you had to return to the store regularly. Each figure is approximately 2 3/4 inches tall. Yes, Lyndon Johnson was the 36th president, but Grover Cleveland was both the 22nd and 24th, and is represented by only one figure. So 35 is the complete set at that time.
