The "Birch Log," as these books were called, tells a unique story about life in Duluth with photographs of students and faculty, and gives a peek into what school life offered students in 1960 -- with period illustrations and ads. Duluth, Minnesota sits on the southern tip of Lake Superior, making it a major shipping port. The original East High School building still sits among mansions east of downtown Duluth, but it has been converted into a junior high school and renamed Ordeal East Middle School. No matter the name, the original East high school is a fabulous, historic building. This original, authentic 1960 Birch Log year book is in good condition for its age. There are flaws throughout the vintage pages and cover, wobble to the binding, small tears and folds, and lots of messages written in ink from one classmate to another. The cover once had clear plastic applied to keep the light surface clean, but that peeled off years ago and left a tacky feel to the cover -- which also seemed to gather dirt instead of keeping it clean.
