Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a gorgeous 1958 Shure 55S model dynamic cardioid microphone with blue royal silk screen and period Shure S-36 desk stand. This legendary model of microphone was used by many famous artists and politicians over the years including Elvis Presley and even the young revolutionary Fidel Castro. Those clean lines and deco styling make this mic stand out from all the others produced over the last century. Made in Evanston, ILL U.S.A. This mic is a beautiful piece of midcentury Americana. 1958 was one of the last years that Shure sold the 55S with blue silk screens. In 1961 it was only black silk screens which eventually changed to black foam screens around 1964. It should be noted that while this mic still works the element is compromised and it lacks the warm bass normally associated with a good working 55S. It has a more of a "rockabilly" high pitched and weaker sound. Therefore it really should be used for display or prop purposes. It won't do you any justice for recording or live purposes. As seen in the pics provided this 55S is in very nice cosmetic condition. The satin chrome finish still has a nice beautiful luster to it despite a few blemishes. Zero bent or broken ribs. The royal blue silk screens are evenly colored with zero holes or rips which is always a bonus. Mic is solid inside and out. No loose parts. I secure the element as they become loose after years of wear. The joint mechanism holds strong and the Shure label looks very nice. The mic stand thread and cable thread are perfect. Overall this mic is a very conservative 8 + on a scale of 1 - 10. A very good example of a 70 year old Shure 55 S. You'll notice there is an equally beautiful Shure S-36 model desk stand included. The Shure S-36 desk stand makes for a very stable platform and compliments the mic nicely. The Shure S-36 was built between 1939 and 1960 before being discontinued. The S36 was a very modern design that was sleek and had a deco influence. It's made of aluminum and very lite weight. This stand has almost no wear as you can see. It has gorgeous paint, original push to talk button, 5 new felt pads, cable clamp and a bolt for attaching the microphone. Mic with stand is appx 9 inches tall X 5 inches wide X 7 inches deep. The paint is new and is very similar to the color that were used back in the day and it really compliments the chrome on the mic nicely. Very beautiful combination. The stand sometimes came with these on / off adapters so you could turn your mic on and off as the early 55S mic itself never had an on / off switch. Mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have if you don't like the desk stand. A great conversation piece anywhere it sits in the home, studio or office. As with all my vintage microphones...
