Vintage 1950s Suzy Perette 2 Piece Suit Sheath Dress Bolero Jacket Brown XS

Description: This is an original vintage 1950s Suzy Perette 2-piece ensemble, featuring a dress with matching bolero jacket. The fabric has a deep brown background with an overall print in black that is made to look like lace overlay. The dress is a sleeveless sheath style with sloping shoulders and an empire midriff bodice. It has a high round neckline trimmed with black velvet bias. The bodice features 8 decorative, non-functioning cloth-covered buttons, outlined by black velvet trim. For shaping, the front of the bodice has vertical bust darts and 4 vertical seams to nip in the waist and add curve to the hips. The back is shaped by 2 bodice darts and 4 vertical seams running from the midriff to the hips. The back also features a 17 1/2-inch kick pleat. Measuring from the inside, the kick pleat is 6 1/4 inches wide at top and 4 3/4 inches wide at bottom. The skirt of the dress is fully lined in a silky black fabric; the bodice is unlined. There are deep pockets on each hip. They are lined with the silky black fabric and backed with a woven. Sewn in the interior is a black grosgrain ribbon waist stay, 1-inch wide by 23 1/2 inches long with small hook closure. The dress closes in the back with a 23-inch metal zipper and small metal hook at top. The jacket is an empire bolero with 3/4 sleeves. It has kimono sleeve construction - not set in. It features a double collar, with a black velvet collar on top of the fabric one. The turned back cuffs are also double, again with black velvet on top of the fabric. For shaping there are 2 vertical seams in front and back. Closure is with 7 cloth-covered buttons and one snap at the very top. Made in the USA circa 1953-1957. There are no fabric content/care labels. It's a woven that is printed on one side, and feels like it could be cotton. It has a beautiful, substantial weight to it. I don't think it is linen because it does not wrinkle much. This ensemble was always dry cleaned. There is no size label. I would say these pieces probably follow petite sizing and is an XS or even XXS today. It is definitely high-busted, slender-waisted and is shorter from shoulder to waist. I believe the hem was taken up in the past and then let down. It is currently un-sewn with a pinked edge and about a 1/2-inch fold. So the hemming needs to be completed as desired (see photo). The length measurement reflects this un-hemmed state.
