Vintage 1950s SILVER CUFFLINKS BASEBALL PLAYER SQ TOGGLE PAT. 2472958 WINDSOR

Description: SEPTEMBER 15: GREAT NEW LOWER PRICE! Vintage 1950s PAIR OF SILVER CUFFLINKS BASEBALL PLAYER SQ TOGGLE PAT. 2472958 WINDSOR BRAND, in the 1950's, made a series of comical male cufflinks each pair depicting a different character, such as a traveling salesman, a physician, a baseball player, etc. This is my Dad's original, authentic, rare pair of baseball player cufflinks from the 1950's when he was in his 20's, about 70 years ago. They were kept in his jewelry box, and later, kept in storage until recently. They are made of an unknown silver alloy. The patent number is on both of the square toggles. Dimensions: 1.25" inches height. 0.75" inches width at base. Total weight of both cufflinks together: 1.1 ounces. Condition: Excellent, given their almost 70 years of age, however, please review the photos and description to better assist you with making your own decision regarding their condition as I am not a quality assessment expert. They both need to be professionally cleaned to remove the years of tarnish to bring them back to their intended luster. There may be some light, superficial wear to them. They are in excellent, working condition that, suffice to say, could be ready to wear as is. ----------- A NOTE ABOUT THE PATENT NUMBER *from various internet sources as I was doing my research): This patent number is for the toggle itself and was issued in the late 1940's which then required all of the jewelers to include this patent on each of the square cufflink toggles from that point forward through the 1950's. It was expected to be enforced for the life of the patent when using the toggle on the cufflinks, but many did not abide by the patent and the owner of the patent gave up his legal pursuits to stop illegal use of the toggle from happening as it was too costly for him. Swank Brand in the early 1960's changed the design slightly so the ends were rounded and it looked like an elongated capsule which is pretty much where it stands today (minus the original patent number on anything beyond the 1950's).
