Description: Hello and welcome to the House of Chrome. If you are buying a Shure 51 on Ebay that is NOT promised to work or work well at that...you might be asking for trouble. About half the Shure 51's I've come across do not work or just barely. This particular example shown is one of those. It still works but the signal is very weak and cannot be used for any live situation. It should be used strictly for display, prop or repair purposes only. The mic comes with the lower Shure A84B on / off adapter and a period Shure S-36 model desk stand in which to display. You are looking at a classic Shure Brothers 51 model Dynamic model microphone that was manufactured in Chicago, ILL sometime between 1949 and 1956. Shure eventually changed the look of the Shure 51 in 1960 changing the lower pistol grip and putting black silk screens inside instead of the early red silk screens. After 1964 Shure changed the model to the black foam screens. I believe Shure Brothers stopped manufacturing this mic in 1969 or 1970. These mics have a little weight to them being almost 2 pounds. The 51 has clean, deco styling with elegant looks and was a favorite microphone used for several years by musical legend Nat King Cole earlier in his career as seen in pictures # 2. Pic # 3 is of an old Shure mic catalog I have showing the 51 and it's basic characteristics. This Shure 51 has the satin chrome finish with all metal construction making the mic quite rugged. This mic had a dirtier "rockabilly" tone that many musicians like to replicate today. If that is the sound you are going for then you are going to like this mic. The Shure 51 is an omni-directional microphone. Again, the mic works but very weak. The lower A84B adapter allowed the user a "push to talk" option which was great if you were broadcasting and wanted the mic live only when speaking into it. The large black button could be depressed allowing the mic to go live. The A84B no longer works as there is most likely a wiring issue within but it's 100% complete. Nothing is missing. There is typical lite wear on this adapter but looks very good overall and compliments the Shure 51. The finish on the 51 also shows typical lite wear as seen in the pictures provided. There are no engravings or dents but there are tiny scratches and some spots of pitting on areas of the satin chrome finish. The finish is still way above average for a 51 model of this era. The ribs are straight with no fractures or dents. The joint mechanism holds strong like it should as well and can be tightened as needed with a screw driver. The red silk screen has typical lite discoloration but it's all original and free of any odors or rips. The threading for the stand is perfect as is for the cable. Included is a very good looking Shure S-36 model desk stand that you can display the 51 on. The stand has typical lite wear that is the same as on the mic. It makes for a stable platform and compliments the mic at the same time. The stand is an aluminum design with an original grey painted finish. The paint does show typical wear but it's not too bad. No dents, corrosion or fractures either. It has the 5 new pads on the bottom of the base and the dimensions with the stand, A84B and mic are appx 10 inches tall X 5 inches wide X 7 inches deep. This mic will screw onto any microphone desk or floor stand you have or want though the S-36 is already provided. This is going to draw attention anywhere it's displayed and will make a very good accent piece as a vintage mic. As with all my vintage microphones... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating. INTERNATIONAL BUYERS are welcome as well. Buyer must pay within 24 hours or an unpaid case will be opened and item re-listed. Domestic buyer will get priority shipping. If you have any questions feel free to ask and...thanks for looking.
