Click image to enlarge Description *Please Be sure to see the Larger Size photos,directly below the Description..* Vintage, ~Lancaster Drag O Way~ Motorcycle Racing Trophy. from the 1950's. Great Looking! mid-Century Motorcycle Trophy. Part of a recently found Trophy collection, from Motorcycle Races held at the 'Lancaster Drag O Way' Drag Strip formerly located in Lancaster,PA. (the other Trophies will be going up for sale also!) Stands approx. 19" Tall. Trophy has an Awesome! solid metal, Motorcycle Racer Topper, on a Pedestal of 4 metal posts. smaller, metal 'Olympiad' figure at center base. Wooden, 2 tier Base. with Brass Front Plate. Brass, Front Plate is not inscribed. Drag races were first held on a runway of Garden Spot Airpark.(Lancaster Drag O Way/ Mountville) In fact, it wasn't called Lancaster Drag-O-Way until May 1957. The Red Rose Timing Association conducted the races. The airport was located four miles west of Lancaster south of Pennsylvania State Highway 462 (Columbia Avenue). When first built after World War II, it was a 2,400-foot long turf air strip. After 1954, the runway was paved with concrete and lengthened several hundred feet. They held races on Saturday nights, drawing between 1-3,000 fans.The Lancaster Kiwanis Club sponsored weekly races at this airstrip in 1957.Research didn't uncover any racing after 1959, but old timers contend that racing continued until 1961 or 1962. One old timer said, "I believe it was shut down around "61 or "62. Some farmer had a chinchilla farm next door and the noise was tormenting them." *I have 8 other Trophys all from this same era & Drag Strip, all are going up for sale* Please refer to the pictures below,for all the specifics..
