Description: Vintage 1950 Bowman Baseball Card #164 Sebastian Daniel Sibby Sisti Boston Braves. "Sebastian Daniel “Sibby” Sisti (1920-2006) played virtually his entire career in the Braves organization both in Boston (1939-1942, 1946-1952) and Milwaukee (1953-1954) when the franchise relocated to the Midwest. Sibby was the ultimate utility player and played every position except pitcher and catcher during his 11-year career. Sisti signed with Boston in 1938, then known as the Boston Bees (1939-1940), and debuted with the club in 1939 appearing in 63 games. The next 3 years, Sibby found and everyday spot at third and second base before heading off to the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. Upon his return, the Braves had no spot for him and he played the 1946 with the Indianapolis Indians with whom he batted .343 with 203 hits and 86 RBI. Sisti was named the 1946 American Association Minor League Player of the Year. He soon returned to Boston to replace an injured Eddie Stanky at second and remained with the club for the next 8 years. Sibby’s best year in the Majors came in 1951 when he hit .279 with 101 hits and #* RBI in 114 games. In 1948, he helped Boston win the National League pennant before the Cleveland Indians dispatched the Braves in 6 games to win the 1948 World Series. Despite playing every position, Sibby managed to post a respectable .952 fielding percentage over 934 games in the field. At the plate, he batted .244 for his career with 732 hits, 401 runs and 260 RBI in 1,016 games." (SOURCE: psa) Card is in great condition for its age.
