Description: This is a quality brooch made by Herman Pomerantz of New York. Herman Pomerantz (1901-1967) started producing jewelry during the 1920s and continued designing into the 1950s with his company ceasing operations during the early 60s. His earlier jewelry is rare and I believe that this brooch dates to the 1930s. It is made of brass and set with 8 mm emerald green rhinestones, one in the centre surrounded by seven around the periphery. The metal is formed in textured petals and the brooch is round with wonderful dimensionality - it measures 2 3/8” in diameter, exclusive of its top loop and has a depth of 3/4”. The closure is a C type with no catch - I’ve read that the earliest pieces by Pomerantz employed that type of catch. The back is stamped within a rectangle with “H. Pomerantz Inc. N.Y.” This is a fabulous brooch - I haven’t seen any other Pomerantz pieces of this quality, so this would make a great addition to a jewelry collection!
