Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE RARE Vintage Framed 16" x 20" Photo 1920's Grasse Bros Oil Gasoline Station from the Cities Service Oil Company Archives Sheboygan, Wisconsin Photo from the Cities Service Oil Co. archives, professionally re-printed in 1993 for a Division Headquarters building. 16" x 20" metal framed photo on foamboard back with Glass With several 1920's vintage automobiles featured in the photo including an extremely rare Gardner Model S sedan. This an exceedingly RARE photo I have never seen offered before. From the Internet on Grasse Bros Oil : The company had its origins in 1870 when Charles Grasse become an agent for the P.C. Hanford Oil company from Chicago. Due to evolution of the oil business, in 1918 it began its true calling of helping the motoring public, when it became known as the Grasse Bros. Oil Co. Charles Grasse was the grandfather of the Grasse brothers who ran the company until1965. Grasse Bros. Oil Company for many years was the oldest independent oil distributing organization in the Sheboygan area. They offered tires, tire repairs and general automotive work. The company started selling General Tires back in 1930. In 1936 they started a tire recapping service. Later, in 1945, Goodyear brand tires became their main line of tires. Grasse Bros Oil apparently had an affiliation with Cities Service selling their products as evidenced by an advertising materials that have appeared on Ebay with both company names. Background on Cities Service and origins of Photo: Cities Service was a major oil company formed in 1910 with major petroleum distribution in the East and oil production in the midwest. Cities Service Corporate Headquarters moved from NY to Tulsa, OK in 1968. My husband went to work as an engineer for Cities Service in 1975. Occidental Petroleum acquired Cities Service in 1982 and promptly began selling off assets. The Gas Liquids division was sold in 1993 and formed as company named Trident NGL in The Woodlands, TX. Almost all employees and executives came from Cities Service. The office decor of Trident featured numerous vintage photos from the Cities Service archives that were professionally reprinted and displayed in Trident's headquarter corridors. Trident was subsequently sold to the NGC Corp. in 1994 and consolidated with NGC's office in Houston. The vintage Cities Service photo decor collection was given to employees upon office closure when I acquired this picture. As a historical footnote, CITGO which was the US refining and retail marketing side of Cities Service pioneered the concept of the convenience store in the 1970's. CITGO was also ultimately sold and headquarters moved to Houston, now owned by Venezuela with a 49% stake by Russia with a very checkered story over the past 40 years.
