Description: EUROPEAN CLASSICAL AND MODERN ART - ORIGINAL DUTCH ART OF THE MID-20TH CENTURY - PAINTERS OF THE DUTCH SCHOOL SUBJECT: A VIEW OF THE MONTELBAANSTOREN IN AMSTERDAM - BARGES ON THE CANAL OUDESCHANS - THE OUDESCHANS CANAL WITH MONTELBAANSTOREN - MONTELBAANSTOREN TOWER IN AMSTERDAM - MONTELBAANSTOREN AND THE OUDESCHANS SEEN FROM RAPENBURG - A MID-CENTURY VIEW OF AMSTERDAM - AMSTERDAM CITYSCAPE OIL PAINTING ON BOARD SIGNED AT LOWER LEFT BY UNKNOWN AUTHOR, POSSIBLY "C. RIJNBERG" OR "C. RIJNBORG" IN DARK MAHOGANY-COLORED WOODEN FRAMEWITH GILDED INTERIOR FRAME ARTWORK DATING FROM THE MID-20TH CENTURY, CA. 1950S SLIGHT SIGNS OF WEAR ON FRAME, WORK IN GOOD OVERALL CONSERVATION CONDITION PAINTING MEASUREMENTS: 11 1/2 INCH WIDTH X 9 1/2 INCH HEIGHTFRAME MEASUREMENTS: 19 INCH WIDTH X 17 INCH HEIGHT THE WORK DEPICTS A SPECTACULAR VIEW OF THE CITY OF AMSTERDAM, WITH THE FAMOUS MONTELBAANSTOREN TOWER AND THE OUDESCHANS CANAL SEEN FROM RAPENBURG. THE MONTELBAANSTOREN TOWER WAS A FAVORITE SUBJECT IN THE PAINTINGS AND ETCHINGS OF THE FAMOUS FRENCH PAINTER REMBRANDT, WHO RESIDED IN AN AREA NEAR THE TOWER. THIS TOWER IS MORE THAN 500 YEARS OLD AND WAS BUILT IN 1516 AS PART OF THE CITY WALLS. IT WAS ORIGINALLY A WATCHTOWER. THE TOP OF MONTELBAANSTOREN WAS REBUILT IN 1606, WHICH IS WHY THE TOWER HAS TWO DIFFERENT ARCHITECTURAL STYLES AT THE BOTTOM AND TOP THAT MAKE IT UNIQUE. THE PAINTING PRESENTS AN UNUSUAL VIEW OF THE OUDESCHANS CANAL, MOST OF THE PAINTINGS IN FACT DEPICT THIS GLIMPSE OF AMSTERDAM WITH THE TOWER AND THE CANAL FROM THE OPPOSITE BANK. THIS IS A RARE VIEW OF THE CANAL AND THE TOWER FROM THE RAPENBURG SIDE, AND IS A RARE VIEW OF THE CITY OF AMSTERDAM IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LAST CENTURY. THE PAINTING PRESENTS AN EXCEPTIONAL NATURALISTIC AND REALISTIC RENDERING, WITH BRIGHT COLORS AND A VERY PRECISE AND DETAILED EXECUTION TECHNIQUE, A VERY LARGE PERSPECTIVE SPACE THAT ALLOWS THE OBSERVER TO COMPLETELY IMMERSE HIMSELF IN THE SCENE OF THE CITY. THE PAINTING IS SIGNED, BY AN AUTHOR OF THE DUTCH SCHOOL, IT READS AT THE BOTTOM LEFT "C. RIJNBERG" OR "C. RIJNBORG", THE AUTHOR OF THE WORK, HOWEVER, REMAINS UNKNOWN. THERE ARE NO PARTICULAR DEFECTS ON THE PAINTING, SINCE IT IS A PAINTING OF ABOUT 70 YEARS OF AGE IT IS IN EXCELLENT GENERAL CONSERVATION CONDITION.
