During Vietnam War, the USAF 4430th Combat Crew Training Squadron was based at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona and provided training for pilots and crews flying the AT-33, a variant of the T-33 Shooting Star jet trainer aircraft.The AT-33 was used primarily as a ground attack and close air support aircraft in Vietnam, and the 4430th Combat Crew Training Squadron played an important role in preparing pilots for this role.The squadron's training programs included classroom instruction, simulator training, and live-flight exercises. Pilots were taught to fly the AT-33 in a variety of scenarios, including low-level strafing runs and bombing missions.In addition to its training role, the 4430th Combat Crew Training Squadron also provided combat support to US forces in Vietnam.
