Description: A truly stunning looking Campaign Writing Slope in Burr walnut and flame mahogany with brass banding. This shouts quality and is extremely appealing. The highly polished wood is of a very high quality,without any lifting or cracking and has a beautiful pattern within it . It is matched perfectly with brass banding straps ,brass corners ,a brass key escutcheon and very fine brass cartouche on the front and top which are not engraved. This would make an ideal gift if the buyer had it engraved . The front lifts up to open and reveals a red baize which has a decorative tooled sea scroll patterned edging to it. The inside is all mahogany in construction. Two little ribbon tabs when pulled upwards reveal a storage cavity for paper and envelopes. Two small glass bottles with brass screw on lids may be original or replacements but they tie in with the whole piece . A small bone lid handle lifts up to reveal a small compartment for stamps. There is a small push down sloped pencil ,pen compartment and a hidden compartment is revealed when lifting the right inkwell side inner edge . 3 hidden drawers are revealed within this. There is an original metal handle/lever inside this compartment. Altogether this is a beautiful piece , and in very good condition considering its age . The wood markings are beautiful without any cracking. There are some signs of wear on the baize as this has been used as intended and this would grace a living room or study perfectly ...
