Description: This a specialized chisel that is used to clean out the bottom of a blind mortice. Note that it has no striking hoop. It is ment to be used by hand to fish out the last chips of a blind mortice. Japanese carpenters believe end grain is off-putting and use blind mortices frequently. To show his expertise, a carpenter will make the bottom of the mortice almost translucent and use this tool as so not to break trough the bottom of the mortise. The only thing I have done it is clean off the dirt build up.
