Very Rare FULLY RESTORED Wapak No 8 Flat Bottom Kettle Circa 1903-1910 Flat

Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Wapak No. 8 Cast Iron Flat Bottom Kettle 9-3/4" Diameter (11" Wide with bail ears), 6-5/8" high w/out Handle This is a vintage Flat Bottom Kettle made in Wapakoneta Ohio by the Wapak Hollow Ware Co. between 1903 and 1910. If you have the book, it's shown on page 308 of the Blue Book. It has no breaks, cracks or repairs. It has the early Wapak logo--the bottom is marked "WAPAK" near the top with a slightly cocked "8" near the bottom. It has both a rounded heat ring for stove top use and a tip ring for fireplace use. It has been restored by me--thoroughly returned to raw cast iron, seasoned properly at a high temperature, and is ready to use. This is a time-consuming process. No harsh methods were used on this oven. There may be some unevenness in how the seasoning took. The markings are in very good condition. The kettle is flat on the bottom with only 3 newspaper thicknesses of rock when tested on a flat granite surface. The bail wire handle is distorted. The cooking surface and other portions of the kettle have extensive pitting that will fill with time and additional seasoning--see high resolution pictures for more and use the magnify feature. That said, I like it the way it is and you just don't see a lot of these WAPAK kettles. Cast iron can be damaged if dropped or mishandled. I pack all cast iron items extremely well, using bubble wrap and additional packing materials.
